Midweek Catch Up
What a week! It’s 9:55 PM on Tuesday night as I’m writing this; between a short tour, a few deadlines, my sweet mama’s birthday, and traveling to visit family, I haven’t had a chance to sit down on my laptop for more than a few minutes.
But it’s been a great week! Even today, with the first bands from the hurricane hitting southeast Georgia (where I was born and raised), my mom, Beau, and I had a girls’ day and drove to St. Simon’s, partly to pick up some medicine and visit one of our favorite health food stores, Island Natural Market, and to check out the cutest little vintage shop downtown, where I scored one of my best purchase of all time last year: this amazing Austrian wool coat! (Also, forever in love with this photo of me and my long-distance bff, Giselle!)
I’ve even been feeling well enough to have a cheat day (no, the AIP ginger cake and coconut milk ice cream do NOT count as a cheat; it’s definitely AIP compliant!), so we all bought a Hail Mary’s chocolate tart to celebrate Mom’s birthday and ate it in the car together while it was pouring rain.
We’re spending a few more days in my hometown before heading north again, and let me tell you this: I’m missing my sweet guy and Roxy-girl! They did such a good job holding down the fort, and Charlie had a great time with them over the weekend, but we’re both excited to get back and off the road for a second.
Which means it’s time to get back into studio! It’s been over two years since Beau and I released a studio album, and we’re SO EXCITED! We’re recording with an awesome band, and I gotta tell you, getting to write with my sister and record in Nick’s studio, with my pups and my friends and all the gluten free foods I could want is basically a dream come true. Plus, we’re looking at some pretty dang cool cities to tour to later this year.
Sometimes I seriously can’t believe this is my life.
But it is! And it can be messy and sticky (literally; I woke up this morning to an exploded bottle of honey that was leaking out of the cabinet and allllllll over the counters), but I seriously can’t believe it’s mine. Just this weekend, I got to go to three cities I love (Atlanta, Asheville, and Boone), explore with some of my best friends, and play the same stage that First Aid Kit played like…two weeks ago. Serious “omg” moment. And I’ve got a ton of work coming up this month, but I get to work on some of my favorite bands of all time, and with some of my favorite people.
Bottom line? Design a life you love. Seriously. It takes hard work and sacrifice, but when you get to wake up every morning and go “how is this possible can this really be my life???” it’s so, so worth it.
P.S. This started out as a “Road Trip Faves” listicle, where I intended to share all my favorite jams, but hey, sometimes you just need to tell everyone how excited you are. Check back for the jams!
