Happy New Year!

I’m writing this on January 1, 2019 during halftime of the Sugar Bowl, and I seriously can’t believe it’s actually 2019.

In some ways, it feels so weird to have just started another year. 2018 was not easy, and it felt so long. I seriously forgot we had an Olympics. But at the same time, it feels like it flew by. In some ways, I’m glad it’s over. In others…well, I’m grateful for everything I learned this year. I’m grateful for the challenges presented and the problems solved. I’m grateful for the valleys, because they made the mountaintops even better.

But man, am I glad it’s over, and so excited to see what 2019 has in store!

happy new year!

We ended the year well, though, with lots of family time, food, and lazy days. Last night, for New Year’s Eve, we went out for Korean barbecue, our NYE tradition, ate for two hours, then came home to eat vegan ice cream, watch Friends, and cuddle with the pups until midnight. This morning, we hit the gym, ran about a million errands, and got back to work. I’ve been complaining to Nick about not having enough to do over the last week or so (because I can’t just relax and enjoy myself apparently!), and he suggested I write a blog post, so here I am!

(Side note: I’ll be writing and sharing blog posts on a weekly basis in 2019! I’m looking forward to diving deeper into a paleo lifestyle, my love for vintage clothes, my favorite books and records, and my love for travel here and on Instagram.)

I’m not really a fan of New Year’s Resolutions, since I feel like we can make the decision to change our lives on any given day, but in the spirit of the season, why not? Share yours in the comments below!

1. Deepen my yoga practice. Last year, I made it a goal to practice yoga every day, and while I didn’t quite make it, I practiced more often - and more regularly - than ever before, partially in thanks to my favorite online instructors (Yoga by Candace, Yoga with Adriene, Sara Ticha Yoga, and Boho Beautiful). This year, I’m beginning an teacher training program to deepen my knowledge, and share it with anyone who is looking for tools to heal, strengthen, and empower.

2. Be more present. This is definitely an ongoing challenge for me! My brain feels like it’s going ten thousand miles an hour most of the time, thinking about the projects I’m working on, what the future holds, and (most importantly) what we’re having for dinner, not to mention the urge to scroll through Instagram. I read a quote (yes, it was on Instagram) along the lines of, “Be present when you travel, when you talk, and when you eat. It’d in these moments that a life is made.” My goal in 2019 is to put down the phone and invest myself 100% into whatever is in front of me.

3. Read more + listen to more music. For educational purpose, and just for fun. When I get busy, I let the things that I truly enjoy (like reading or listening to music) either fall to the wayside, or feel like a chore. I want to make it a priority to enjoy books, records, and Friends marathons this year

(PS. My latest obsessed is Dolly Parton’s entire catalogue (I have the Dumplin’ movie to thank for that), and I’ve got “Here You Come Again” on repeat while writing this.)

What I like even more are my words for 2019: empowerment. independence. vitality. peace. Like I said, nothing crazy, but that’s what I like about them. They’re simple, daily tasks that require a little bit of intention and dedication to making the time to take care of myself, body, mind, and soul while loving my family and friends with greater presence.
