5 Things That Make Me Happy
As we get closer and closer to the holidays, I’m reminded of two things: 1. how quickly time goes by (seriously it feels like it should be about June) and 2. how incredibly happy I’ve felt lately.
I don’t think that happiness just happens; I think it’s a constant, intentional choice you have to make every day (and I wrote about it here!), but even as I’ve gotten busier, there’s this overwhelming sense of gratitude, contentment, and happiness in my heart. I feel like I’m taking steps and moving forward, and making things happen rather than letting things happen, or waiting for some big event that sets everything straight and lets me live the life I want to live.
In my experience, it just doesn’t happen that way, but if something changes, I’ll let y’all know ;)
That being said, there are a few things that always make me happy, even on my worst day! First off is this adorable little purple fox mug Nick bought for me while we were shopping for fabric, to drape the ceilings of his studio. He knows how much I love cute coffee cups (and little animals!), and surprised me with it at the checkout counter. I wake up every morning and drink a cup of coffee with MCT oil in it, and I can’t help but smile.
Second is my sweet guy and our pups. Seriously, it’s hard not to smile, even on my worst day, when Nick says something absolutely ridiculous, or Roxy and Charlie both try to sit in my lap or chase each other around my legs while I’m doing yoga. Talk about learning to be mindful and focused no matter what’s going on around you!
Third is the HUJI app, aka the reason I can pretend to be a decent photographer and all my pictures look like they came from an instant camera. I know it’s just an app, but I love documenting family vacations, shows, touring, and the little, every day things that make up a life. The fact that HUJI makes it look cool seriously makes me happy. (Nope, not an ad; I’m not affiliated with HUJI in anyway. I just think it’s cool!)
Fourth is time with my sweet family. Everybody is getting older and busier, and there aren’t as many movie nights as there used to be, but we all make sure to get together, cook, and stay connected, no matter how busy the week is.
Fifth is my job. I wake up every single day with a ToDo list a mile long and roughly 47 million emails…but I can’t wait to get up and get to it. I mean, honestly, I get to listen to music and write about it for a living. I get to blog and share my journey. I get to write music and perform and travel. “Lucky” doesn’t begin to cover it.
